Betting On Call of Duty 101

You guys ever go to Twitch to turn on some Call of Duty channels and watch the pros go at it?

I have, and I’ve no problem admitting that that’s some stressful stuff right there!

A Screenshot from Call of Duty Warzone supporting solo players as well as teams of two or three.

The average player can sit around and play CoD all they want and actually become pretty good. The issue is that no matter how good they become there will always be a bunch of kids that will be so much better!

Again, we’re talking about the average player here. If you can go in and just lay waste to all of the other players, becoming number one yourself, good for you! For the rest of us including me, life is going to be so much more stress-free if we watch others do it, and there’s some good news that goes along with that – you can make all kinds of money gambling on these eSports athletes!

What Is Call of Duty?

I’m going to assume that you already know what Call of Duty is.

“No,” you say. Well, what rock have you been living under?

This is in jest of course, but here is a super quick rundown for anyone that isn’t totally clear, just in case.

War is Fun?

19 titles in the series have been released with new titles being released every year and has become one of the most famous series of all time having sold approximately 425 million copies. It stands to reason that it doesn’t really matter what the average person thinks about the concept of war – there are a ton of people that want to spend plenty of time on the battlefield!

The series has hit up history by taking on WWI and WWII as well as more modern fights and even moving considerably into the future.

It has also had its moments of controversy, (see Airport Mission) that are so strong a player is given the option to just skip the mission altogether with no repercussion.

Call of Duty is definitely one of the most important franchises in the FPS (First Person Shooter) genre.

While other eSports games come around and show their strength for a bit just to die down in popularity (Overwatch), CoD is showing no signs of letting up after almost two decades of releases.

Is The Pro Call of Duty Scene Hard to Follow

Not at all.

A team to really pay attention to right now, the Atlanta Faze, currently the favorites in just about every category!

When first getting into the game you learn immediately that it’s super simple to figure out what’s going on. The gameplay is like virtually any other FPS, kill your enemy before they kill you. There are naturally some other objectives but just watching a game for a minute or two will fill you in on what’s going on!

For some examples, these gameplay modes are among the most popular:

  • Search and Destroy
  • This mode is round-based and there are actually a number of ways a “Search and Destroy” game could be won. The first would be to just eliminate all enemy players. Another way could be to just delay your enemies until a timer runs out on the in-game clock. There will also be a planted bomb on the map which can be defused by the attacking team bringing on a victory.

  • Capture the Flag
  • Somewhere on the gameplay map will be a “flag” and the objective of the players, besides staying alive, is to capture said flag and return it to their home base. When the flag is returned, points are given out and the flag will then respawn at a different spot on the map until the timer runs out or a team scores a pre-determined amount of points.

  • Domination
  • In this mode, there will be a particular spot on the map, usually not told to the players before the start of a game. Players will attempt to arrive at said point of the map and hold in, staying in position and keeping control of the map point. Often, this point on the map will change many times throughout a match.

  • Hardpoint
  • Many other games will call this mode “King of the Hill”. In Hardpoint, players will rush to secure a hardpoint on the map. Holding this point will grant points and increases a team’s score. The hardpoint itself will rotate and change spots on the map many times throughout the game.

At one time those were the most important modes that were being played.

Moving onto “now” (late 2022), the Battle Royale mode has really picked up steam and is played competitively. In a Battle Royale game, players are dropped into a map and can go either solo or with teammates along with a set number of other players, and then it’s pretty much just an “every man for himself” situation with the last man/team standing declared the winners.

Keeping these important game modes in mind, you’ll be covered to jump in and know exactly what is going on in any game.

Once again, being late in 2022, the three modes that are being used in the Call of Duty league this season (Vanguard) are “Search and Destroy”, “Control”, and “Hardpoint”.

  • Professional Positions

There are many, many positions that a player can take within their team going beyond the scope of this article.

The really important positions that members will take within a team include:

  • Slayer
  • This is the position that most people are going to be familiar with. Their main job is to wreck the progress of the other team, usually, in the way of going in guns blazing, and just slaughtering anyone that’s unlucky enough to cross their path.

  • Anchor
  • These players will control of defend the targeted areas of the map.

  • Objective
  • The main “objective” of this player is to protect the main objective of the mission, hence the name. This player will die a lot which I know sounds counter-intuitive, but the team is going to be having a really bad time if nobody is doing this!

  • Support
  • The Support player is one that adds support to the other teammates and is one of the most important roles in the game. This player needs to not only be one of the quickest but also among the most versatile taking on many roles.

Some Differences Between Call of Duty and Other FPS’s

Is there a difference? Oh, you bet!

Looking at other games you can see an immediate difference, the biggest being that CoD has kept the same formula for the most part, and as we have already discussed, the people love it!

Comparing it to say, “Apex Legends”, you see an entire world of difference! Apex Legends takes a lot of cues from Cod but adds a fantasy situation to it with futuristic weapons to downright silly abilities.

And in comparing it to “Escape from Tarkov”, you may not see a difference immediately, but you’ll get it after just a few minutes. You would see that EFT is much more “realistic”, and while this is very exciting in itself, it would make for a very boring Pro game. A perfectly reasonable strategy for a player in EFT would be to hide in a bush for 20 minutes at a time and let’s face it. Nobody wants to bet on that!

This is what it would currently look like if you were to go to Bovada, click All Sports>All Sports>eSports and then place bets for Atlanta to outright win, Cellium to take MVP, and LA to reach the finals.
Just sayin’…

Betting on Call of Duty

Firstly, you may be wondering if it’s even worth it to bet on Call of Duty. Is there a big scene for this?

There absolutely is and more importantly here, you can bet on it and win some dough!

The most important thing, and we cannot stress this enough, is to make sure that no matter where you decide to do your betting you choose a site that is safe, legitimate, and offers plenty of bets so you can go through and make sure that you’re getting the best odds!

Luckily, we have done that for you already and we’re going to talk about the best of the best here in a moment, but if you’re not convinced, just take a look at this link here to get a look at all of the Sportsbooks we work with. These have all been vetted and we do use them for our own betting needs.

I have worked with all of these sites for literal years now and trust them. There has been a couple of instances in the past where a sportsbook just didn’t come through with whatever promises were made. In that case, I just stopped working with them, warned all of the players, and then deleted them.

In short, if I feel anyone is going to screw you over, I’m not going to even bother telling you about them!

I’m going to talk about Bovada here for a couple of reasons.

One) I genuinely believe that it’s the best of the best for some eSports action. That’s not to say that there aren’t other safe, legitimate sites out there, but for the sake of this page here we’re talking Call of Duty, which brings me to –

Two) At the time of this writing, Bovada is the only site offering some Call of Duty action! Naturally, this may change in the future, so make sure that you keep checking on these sites here to see if any more action pops up anywhere else!

  • Bovada

It won’t come as a surprise to most to see Bovada as one of the best places you can go to place your Call of Duty bets, but there’s a reason for it! Bovada has come through time and again with its honesty, transparency, support, odds given, promotions, and all-around stability.

While not the only place to place your eSports bets, most of the time you’re going to find the best odds that way!

Joining up over at Bovada right now can get you a $250 Bonus just for signing up and using your credit card to make a deposit with no code required.

If you are a crypto user you can turn that into a $750 Bonus as long as you make your first deposit with the code BTSCWB750.

For those that want to take advantage of that, when you go to make your deposit with the cashier you’ll see a box on your screen to enter this code!

To find some Call of Duty action over at Bovada, you’ll need to simply click on All Sports>All Sports>eSports, and then over on the left-hand side of the screen, you’ll see the available eSports that are currently going on.

At the time of this writing, there’s only one event coming up and you’re going to want to do your homework here and get ready for this one, it’s the big one!

The CDL Championship will be coming up with events taking place on January 1st making sure that you could start the new year off right with all kinds of extra dough!

Luckily, for the uninitiated, there are only 3 types of bets that are listed right now. That can be a good thing for those that are totally new to it. They won’t get overwhelmed with choices. Right now those choices include:

  • Outright Win
  • There are 12 teams that will be playing that day, you’ll bet on which team will win the big event no matter how they got to the winning slot.

  • Regular Season MVP
  • This is where you’ll bet on an individual player, the best player out of all of the teams.

  • To Reach the Final
  • A solid choice for those that are brand spanking new to the world of betting in general. Here you would be betting on a team to make it to the finals but not worrying about whether they’ll be winning or losing in the long run.

Things You Need to Learn Before Placing Your Bets

The fans pile in for the Call of Duty, World League in London.

While I’ve talked about how easy it is to get into the world of Call of Duty betting, it’s not all roses from the start. You’re going to have to do some studying if you want to make smart, educated bets.

Some of the things that are going to be discussed in this next section can be learned simply by watching your favorite teams or players play for a bit. Do that and you can start to pick up on:

  • Stress and Fatigue

Someone may think it’s kind of silly to believe that these players will be faced with stress and fatigue. They are just playing video games, after all.

You will notice as you’re getting into the world of betting on CoD that the big tournaments happen every so often, sure, but these players are still going at it for an average of 14 hours a day!

There are many, many players that will say that there comes a point where the game isn’t just fun anymore, it’s become like a regular nine-to-five job and they would actually love to play less. We would all love to leave our nine-to-fives, right?

So why do they keep doing it for so many hours a day? Sponsorship.

It’s all about the sponsorship and people have got to play X amount of time if they want to keep pulling those checks!

So pay attention to your favorite players! Are they on that much? Is there a chance that the stress and fatigue can start to get to them?

  • Bullying

Cyberbullying is a thing, and it’s real, especially while playing online and streaming where you can see things happen in real time.

Is your chosen warrior being bullied either by people that don’t support him? What about by their own fans maybe doing some stalking? Hey, it happens!

These things start to add up over time and when you see a player that catches a lot of flack for whatever reason, it’s only going to be a matter of time before this starts to affect them.

  • Adjustment Issues

Is your player new to the Pro World?

That’s actually something to keep in mind. Maybe you’ve seen them in amateur leagues, clearing enemies off left and right, but that doesn’t change the fact that moving into the pros is going to be an adjustment issue.

There are new schedules to follow, along with the stress of just trying to be the best to ensure that they don’t lose this amazing opportunity! A new life altogether!

This can also lead to major anxiety issues that can affect a player’s performance.

  • Isolation

I talked about the number of hours on end someone will play either in amateur leagues or in the professional world.

It takes a very special person to pretty much no longer spend any time with family and friends. Is the player you’re backing going to be good with that, or are they starting to feel lonely?

This is something else you’ll pick up on if you watch someone stream for an amount of time before you start betting!

  • Location

If you think about it, the location of a tourney can cause fatigue in a player.

With eSports, many times tournaments can be held locally with everything being online. Quite often, the “bigger” tournaments are held in a specific location and a team has to travel to get there.

Think about the team that you would like to wager on. Did they have to travel far to get there? Were they “on the road” for a day or two in order to get to a tournament and foregoing some practice time? This may affect players that are going up against a team that has been practicing for all of the hours leading up to the games.

  • Regular Day to Day Frustration

We all have good days, we all have bad days, and many times there’s no rhyme or reason as to why your day ends up one of the two! Quite often, however, if you pay attention to someone they’ll start to spill the beans as to why they’re not having a great time in life.

Watch your player. Are they complaining about the bills piling up? Is their girlfriend giving them a hard time about anything? Did they run into some car trouble the night before?

If these types of things were to happen to you one at a time, you probably wouldn’t even think about it. You just move on, fix whatever the problem is, and say, “that’s life”.

Given enough of those things piling up one after the other and it’ll really take a toll on you!

And speaking of which, some of the things that are mentioned just above don’t apply to only the player, that can apply to you as well! Take a look at the “How Does Self-Esteem Affect Your Betting“? article. In that post I talk about how some of those things directly apply to you!

All Of The Above Are Tied To Each Other

Watch your favorite players. If they’re acting a little “down”, that’s going to be something to keep an eye on!

This is just “in general” life stuff that can happen to anyone. If enough of these daily occurrences happen to someone and they bring it up, you can tell that they’re starting to affect the mental health of the player.

These are all things that you can learn about your player if you just watch them for a bit.

Lastly, there is one thing that we just cannot stress enough, it’s by far the most important thing.

Only do your betting at legitimate, safe sites.

There are way, way too many places out there that will be glad to take your money and place your bets. But what happens when you win? Then they’re nowhere to be found. It’s a horrible thing but there’s just nothing that we can do about it on our end.

I still stand by the best place to bet on eSports being Bovada. But, if you’re just not feeling them for any reason, follow these links to take a look at other sites that I have personally used that will definitely take care of you!
